Tools are items that appear in Dream BBQ and are used to advance gameplay.
Overview[]
Tools are items found throughout Dream BBQ that are used to advance gameplay. According to Dream BBQ's description on Steam, players are meant to use strange Tools in order to solve unusual problems.[1] When a Tool is obtained, an image of the Tool appears onscreen along with its name and a short description. A cutscene plays when the Tool is used, showing Ena utilizing it.
It is assumed that the Tools in Dream BBQ function similarly to the items obtained by Ena in Temptation Stairway, which first introduced game-like item mechanics.
History[]
The first usage of item-like objects appeared in Temptation Stairway in the form of the Turrón and Blood ID items, which were obtained from minor characters and used to benefit Ena on her adventure through the residence of The Great Runas. Such benefits include pointing out directions (as shown when giving the Turrón to The Shepherd) or opening up new pathways to traverse (as shown when giving the Blood ID to Mariya and Gabo).
The concept of Tools was revealed during an ENA Day 2022 Twitch stream discussing various aspects of Dream BBQ. They were described as items that would help Ena on her journey. A rough animation of one of the Tools' cutscenes was shown, featuring an item resembling a disembodied head known as "The ultimate Board member" being planted into a section of bone-filled ground by Ena, causing it to grow a towering body and Ena to fall backward.
In the second Dream BBQ trailer, Ena can be seen wielding various objects in the gameplay segment, including a gun, her right arm, and a lantern-like device with a spinning pinwheel inside. Though it is not specified if these are Tools, the lattermost object appears to benefit Ena by pointing where to go when met with a forked path, fitting the description of Tools.
